8-LION DANCE PERFORMANCE AT HOTEL NIKKO KUALA LUMPUR , 22ND FEBRUARY 2010
Nothing can be more auscious than double overtones.. the numeric 8 symbolic of prosperity for all Chinese and the numeric 9 for long life. It is with this in mind that Hotel Nikko Kuala Lumpur decided to hold the traditional Lion Dance featuring 8 ‘lions' on the auspicious 9th day of the Lunar New Year celebration which is today, 22nd February 2010. The lion dance has been part of the Chinese culture for thousands of years and is performed on auspicious occasions such as weddings, store openings, and various festivals and celebrations. The lion, a symbol of power, wisdom, and good fortune, chases away evil spirits and brings happiness, longevity, and good luck. The lion dance is also performed at many business locations during the Chinese New Year's Celebration for the lion brings prosperity and good luck to the business for the upcoming year.
8 ‘lions' from the Pasukan Tarian Singa Rukun-Tetangga Wilayah Persekutuan roared into the Main Lobby of Hotel Nikko Kuala Lumpur this afternoon amidst the resounding beat of the mighty cymbals and drums; and ‘live' fire crackers. Highlight of the day apart from the magnificent acrobatic performance as the lions climbed up the high poles to reach the ‘prosperity feast' (choi chiang) was the special appearance by the God of Prosperity.
On hand to receive the ‘Pot of Prosperity' at the end of the Lion Dance performance is of course Michael Borostyan, General Manager of Hotel Nikko Kuala Lumpur. This symbolic gesture is very much part and parcel of Chinese customary rites to ensure continued prosperity, wealth and good luck for the business.
