Chef Teh Chee Fook Head Pastry Chef of Hotel Nikko Kuala Lumpur

Hotel Nikko Kuala Lumpur has appointed Teh Chee Fook as the Head Pastry Chef. Chef Teh comes with a wealth of experience having worked for more than 10 hotels throughout his career in the industry, such as the Grand Millennium Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Equatorial Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Hilton Hotel Kuala Lumpur and Shangri La Hotel Kuala Lumpur. In order to further expand his skills and knowledge, Chef Teh had attended many professional pastry trainings both locally and overseas. In the year of 2000, Chef Teh completed his Purotos Diploma in Bakery & Confectionary in Belgium and in 2004 he pursued further training in Europe. In the same year, Chef Teh attained two certificates from Hospitality & Tourism Consulting (HTC) in Asia, the Certificate De Patisserie Professionelle "Les Desserts A L'assiette" and Certificate De Patisserie Professionelle "Les Deserts Pour Buffet".
Chef Teh also challenged himself by taking part in numerous competitions and was awarded for his concerted efforts. He received a bronze medal when he took part in the Malaysia Association of Hotels Culinary & Exhibition (Open Class) in 1982. In 1990 and 1995, Chef Teh achieved 3rd place in both the 3 Tiers Wedding Cake Competition in Singapore and the 3 Tiers Wedding Cake (Class 1) Culinary Malaysia. In 1999, Chef Teh took part in the Le Tour de Langkawi Cake Competition and was awarded with gold medal. In June 2006, Chef Teh took part in a Chocolate Cake Competition which was organized by Great Eastern Mall and took home the champion trophy for the most creative chocolate cake.
Through his experience in the industry, Chef Teh has equipped himself with various skills and he especially enjoys working with chocolate and sugar. Chef Teh credits his mentor Chef Lee Lai for this passion. Chef Lee was renowned for producing artistic sugar and butter showpieces. Now, Chef Teh encourages his young chefs to always expose themselves with new things and different environment in order to upgrade themselves. As the saying goes, ‘Practice makes perfect.' As the Head Pastry Chef in Hotel Nikko Kuala Lumpur, Chef Teh's responsibilities include daily preparation of pastry items for all the Hotel's restaurants as well as special orders for various occasions such as wedding cakes, birthday cakes and anniversary cakes to name a few.
