Fountain of Life Charity Project….
Is a 3-month long community effort by Hotel Nikko
Kuala Lumpur, to help the less fortunate children.
The target for this project is RM150,000 which
will be channeled to the Miracle of Hope Home
funds (a project under Yayasan Harapan Kanak-kanak
Malaysia), to build home for children with
HIV/AIDS in Salak Tinggi, Selangor. In addition,
funds collected will also be distributed to Persatuan
Kebajikan Hope Worldwide, to fund the medical
treatment and consultation given at the Free Clinic.
The Fountain of Life structure,
located at the Main Lobby, Hotel Nikko Kuala Lumpur
is a gigantic triangular formation made up of
50,000 bottles of mineral water, courtesy of Eau
Claire Mineral Water, a local and international
premium mineral water producer. The 35-layer structure
is approximately 5 metres in diameter with a height
of 8.84 metres and is endorsed by The Malaysia
Book of Records, as the tallest man-made formation
constructed from bottles of mineral water.
The idea was mooted by the Communications
and Food & Beverage department, and the construction
of this giant structure was carried out by Engineering
Department team. The formation of this structure
started on 1st August 2007 with a team of twelve
engineering staff who worked tirelessly every
day for an entire week from 9.00 a.m. to 8.00
p.m. A total of 190 fluorescent lights were used
to lit-up this structure.
"It was hard at the beginning
to build this structure, especially the first
few layers, since we have to ensure that it has
a strong base and can hold up to the rest of the
bottles. We used 4,106 bottles for the first layer
and placed a wooden platform on top of these before
we proceed to the second layer. Second layer holds
up to 3,871 bottles followed by the third layer,
which has 3,648 bottles. It took us more than
12 hours just to complete the first three layers,
just in one day," explained Chye Chee Cheong,
the Chief Engineer of the Hotel.
The event ended with a special
Ramadhan break fast buffet organized by Hotel
Nikko Kuala Lumpur and entertainment by Sharifah
Zarina. YA Bhg Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor,
Michael Borostyan and Bryan Tham (Vice President,
Kiwanis Club Taman Desa) took the opportunity
to hand out 'duit raya' (courtesy of Kiwanis Club
Taman Desa and Hotel Nikko Kuala Lumpur) and goodies
bags (courtesy of Eau Claire Mineral Water, Nestle,
